Justices hearing arguments on Ohio voter purge law

Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan sharply questioned an attorney for the state of Ohio today on how the state purges voters during a long-awaited U.S. Supreme Court hearing on the controversial law.

Although state solicitor Eric Murphy insisted “nobody is removed solely by failure to vote,” Sotomayor replied, “It appears that failure to vote” under the Ohio law “is enough evidence to suggest someone has moved. But is that reasonable to draw that conclusion to disenfranchise” voters, in particular minorities?
